Debra Glass, BA, BEd, MEd
- Type 1 diabetic for 28 years
- Masters degree in Counselling (University of Toronto)
- Certified Leader of the Diabetes Self-Management Program (developed at Stanford University and offered by the Central East LIHN)
- Member of the Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists & Psychotherapists (OACCPP).
While working in the post-secondary education sector for 25 years, I developed expertise in Counselling, Mediation, Training, Workshop Design & Delivery, Public Speaking and Complaint & Conflict Resolution.
In pursuit of my goal to establish a counselling office focused on diabetes, I earned a university diploma in Nutrition, enriched my skills in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, studied Motivational Interviewing and received Certification to lead the Diabetes Self-Management Program developed at Stanford University.
In September 2010 I opened my own counselling office and I now work with people with diabetes and their family members. I have extensive knowledge of both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and have worked and volunteered with people with diabetes from age 18 to 96.
My approach to Diabetes Counselling combines elements of Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, mediation skills, practical experience and humour.
