Does successful self-management mean you never have high or low sugars? Does successful self-management mean you never feel frustrated or bored with always having to think about diabetes? My answer would be a definite “No” to these questions.

Successful self-management of diabetes means you know what your diabetes-related goals are. You know what your morning sugar should be; you know what your sugar should be before meals and one to two hours after. You know what your most recent A1C was and what it should be. Successful self-management also means knowing what to do if you are falling short of these goals on a regular basis.
